Running for Our Health – Special Edition!

Saint-Jérôme, May 11, 2020 – The Fondation de l’Hôpital régional de Saint-Jérôme is pleased to announce that it will continue its very popular Running for Our Health benefit event on Sunday, June 7. In accordance with public health recommendations and requirements regarding social distancing, this event will not be held on the Montreal Premium Outlets site as in previous years. This very special edition will therefore be held with the collaboration of the participants, each in their own neighbourhood, alone or as a team while maintaining their distance from each other.

An information kit with guidelines and safety instructions is available on the web page Running for Our Health. It remains the responsibility of participants to be informed and to respect the instructions issued by their city regarding social distancing, as public health guidelines are subject to change as June 7th approaches.

For this special edition, no registration fee is required. Instead, we encourage participants to make a donation at the time of their registration or better still, to create their support team to make each step profitable! An official donation receipt will be issued for all contributions of $10 or more. Participants are also invited to upload their bib on our web page and to personalize it according to their motivation in taking up this challenge. A great way to make the Foundation show its influence on all the different routes and to create, we hope, a ripple effect for giving to our cause!.

The Foundation’s Executive Director, Chantale Fortin, is delighted at the opportunity this activity will provide to demonstrate our solidarity with the healthcare teams in the community. “The health of Laurentian residents is at the heart of our mission. Running for Our Health is a friendly, unifying sporting event that is always highly anticipated in the community. Even if we can’t all be together in the same place, each of our steps will bring hope and contribute to our fundraising efforts. Each year, our race is dedicated to a specific project. For this Special Edition, the participants will be active to fund a second Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine. The one at our regional hospital is operating at maximum capacity and still cannot meet the needs of users who have to wait almost 9 months for this type of diagnostic test. With the crisis we are currently experiencing, the waiting time is unfortunately likely to increase. Thanks to the addition of a second machine, the wait could be reduced to three months, not to mention an additional 10,000 exams per year,” adds Ms. Fortin.

For his part, the Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Philippe Fugère, Vice President, Business Development of Orange Traffic, says he is proud to contribute, once again this year, to the success of this fundraising activity. “The philanthropic sector is being hit hard by the current crisis. As the head of an SME, I am in a position to say that companies like ours can make a difference in their community. Today, I am calling for the mobilization of the region’s business people. Given the magnitude of the needs, I aspire to promote local donations from these businesses by giving them faith in us, in our mission, fully united and committed to the health of Laurentian residents. Running for Our Health generally raises $100,000 for the Foundation. Let’s hope that this event will encourage people to get moving and to give.”

The Fondation de l’Hôpital régional de Saint-Jérôme is the largest health foundation in the Laurentians. For the past 30 years, its mission has been to support development projects with the goal of optimizing care and avoiding, as much as possible, having to send Laurentian residents to the city to receive health care. Its role is also to support projects in Saint-Jérôme’s CLSCs and CHSLDs in order to improve the everyday lives of residents..
