RUNNING FOR OUR HEALTH – EVERYONE IN THEIR NEIGHBOURHOOD – CHALLENGE MET!

The 9th edition of Running for Our Health succeeded in meeting the challenge of getting Laurentian residents moving, each in their own neighbourhood, all together and united in support of our cause. Despite the special conditions this year, we were able to count on the loyal support of our sponsors. Exceptionally for this edition, registration was free and donations were encouraged. Our worthy cause touched the hearts and generosity of 28 teams and 143 participants. The combined efforts of all raised $28,641.

EVERYONE IN THEIR NEIGHBOURHOOD: The Foundation’s Executive Director, Chantale Fortin, acknowledges the generosity and support of the community. “We knew the challenge would be great this year, but we are delighted to see this tremendous outpouring of solidarity. Each step we take in our neighbourhoods translates into a major step towards improving health care in our region. The health crisis we are all facing today makes us even more aware of the importance of local donations and their impact. Our sponsors did not hesitate to maintain their support, and it is a true honour to have them in the extended Foundation family.”

ONGOING DONATIONS The collection of donations is not over yet! Participants have until June 30th to continue collecting donations and thus contribute to the advancement of their Hospital. Proceeds from Running for Our Health 2020 will be used to purchase a second magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine. The addition of this machine will help reduce the waiting time for this type of examination for users in the Laurentians and avoid referring them to distant centres.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION The Foundation always takes advantage of this day to highlight the participants who have particularly distinguished themselves. This extra effort makes a real difference and the Foundation thanks and congratulates you!

  • Teams that raised more than $1,000 in donations on the morning of June 7th: ORAM Plomberie du bâtiment, PFD Avocats, Effet Boomerang, Les Assistantes du Bloc OP+ as well as Métautek.
  • The participant (not part of a team) who raised the most donations as of June 7th: Lorraine Benoit with $1,105 in donations. For a third consecutive year, this passionate and loyal supporter of the event ranks at the top of the pack for an individual collection of donations.

GIVE LOCALLY The Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, Philippe Fugère, stressed the importance of getting moving and participating in this special edition of Running for Our Health. “We can run, walk, exercise, but above all, we can give, GIVE FOR HEALTH,” he said in a video shared on the event’s Facebook page early Sunday morning. Mobilizing local companies and the business community around issues related to the mission of the Regional Hospital Foundation has been at the heart of its involvement for 23 years on the organization’s Board of Directors. “Our major fundraising campaign is in full swing and focuses on the purchase of a second MRI machine. We have two years to raise the $2 million needed to acquire this state-of-the-art equipment. The funds raised through Running for Our Health will be added to the $250,000 already raised for the project. With the support of local businesses, the doctors at our hospital and generous donors, we know that we can succeed in this important project for the benefit of the 610,000 Laurentian residents,” said Mr. Fugère before the start of his run in his neighbourhood.

When giving locally takes on its full meaning, an entire community benefits and feels proud to see their donations become a concrete project!
